There’s A Huge Open Secret.

Just checking in on how you’re doing for your goals for 2021. We’re almost a quarter of the way through the year … can you believe it? Crazy.

If you’re struggling, it’s definitely NOT too late to course-correct (even if you abandoned your goals weeks ago, like many have).

There’s a huge open secret we all know to be true about achieving goals, making lifestyle changes, and setting new healthy habits.

And yet when we map out our goals at the start of the year, we forget it exists.

Here it is: there WILL be obstacles.

It’s not a matter of “if” something will get in your way – it’s a question of WHEN. It happens to EVERYONE.

And when it happens, it can make you question your discipline, or even if it’s possible for you to achieve the goal at all.

You might even feel like quitting.

Many people do.

BUT instead … what if you gave yourself a HUGE pat on the back for pushing yourself out of your comfort zone or trying something new and challenging?!

Then, you:

  • Pinpointed exactly WHAT didn’t work,
  • Why it didn’t work, and …
  • What could make it EASIER, or if this was simple what would it look like, then
  • Adjust your plan to get back on track?

Let’s take a look at one of my goals for 2021.  The Run The Mitt Challenge.

The Run the Mitt Challenge is a virtual run/ walk around the state of Michigan.   If you are to complete the 1,035 miles challenge by December 2021 you should average 2.25 miles a day. I am averaging 1.45. So I’ve got to step this up a little bit. (yes pun intended lol) .

The challenge has definitely made me run more often and I  have definitely spent more time hopping on the treadmill in between clients and calls.

So it seems like, it feels like,  I am rocking this goal.

Since I am actually tracking it and not just going based on how it feels, I can see I am a little behind where I want to be.

You know what I always say “What gets measured gets managed”.  So I have to manage this.

So here is my plan moving forward, now is the time to get back into my quick 10 minute walks in the afternoons.  It may be too much to say I am going to walk every afternoon for 10 minutes (like I used to before balancing work and training a puppy)  but I think I can start by doing it 1x this week. I suspect once I do it once it will be easier to fall back into that routine. Once in that routine I know some of those 10 minute walks become 20 or 40 minutes. Also, we need to get Bella trained on the leash. This will help a ton obviously.

And since I am tracking/measuring it I can see if I start to make up some ground in March.

It’s like putting together a jigsaw puzzle.

Sometimes you can’t see where a piece fits, but if you rotate it and look at it from a different angle, boom! You can see how all the pieces work together to form the complete picture.

Your goals – and the actions you take to reach them – work the exact same way.

It can take some creativity and a fresh perspective to find solutions to the problems that crop up.

I know this because I have helped hundreds of women over 40  find solutions to obstacles that get in the way of their goals, including those old injuries that always seem to derail their fitness progress.
